San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has completed its Disparity Study. The results will determine whether contracting at SFMTA continues to be race-neutral or whether SFMTA can consider the race and gender of the business owner when establishing contracting goals.

Some of the key findings include the following: 

1.     Woman-owned construction and professional services businesses are substantially underrepresented in contracts as prime contractors and subcontractors. As a result, there may be WBE goals.

2.     Black American-owned construction firms are substantially underrepresented in construction contracts. As a result, there may be African American owned construction company contracting goals.

3.     Race-neutral methods implemented over the last eight (8) fiscal years are effective in assisting African American professional services firms, all Asian/ Pacific Islander- and Hispanic American-owned firms to successfully compete for contracts. As a result, there will NOT be goals for African American owned professional services firms. Moreover, there will NOT be goals for Asian/ Pacific Islander and Hispanic/ Latino owned professional services and construction firms.
